Latana is a mixed media artist working with photography, sculpture, drawing, painting and digital processes.  After a liberal arts education, she developed a keen interest in photography and worked in fashion in New York.  However, she quickly discovered her love for fine art after visiting her father in Borneo and capturing images of the local people of Sabah. This project culminated in her very first exhibition in New York entitled, “Sabah, Land Below the Wind”.  Since then, she has been traveling, studying and living in Europe, the United States, and Asia.

A self-taught artist, she expands her craft attending workshops and studying different techniques with art mentors.   Latana utilises her camera to crystallise her perception of the world and its people and as a vehicle to meld her art with sculptures, paintings and charcoals.  Her work tries to evoke in the observer those same emotions that she herself feels whether admiring the grandeur of a landscape, the meaning of a look, or overwhelmed by breathtaking moments of beauty  In this way, she continues to discover her voice as an artist

Social media has offered Latana another way to expose more of her art to the public as well as exhibiting online, her artwork has been published in various contemporary art magazines; including a cover in “Spotlight” last year.    In October of 2021,  Latana participated in the 23rd Edition of the Florence Biennale, Italy and has just been named a member of the Fine Arts Advisory Board of the University of Texas, Austin.  Her latest endeavours unite photography and sculpture, creating unique works that cross traditional boundaries. The use of strong contrast and emotionally charged imagery seeks to ignite a sense of passion and mystery for the viewer.
